Deck Support
CHALLENGE: Poor subsoil under potential building site
SOLUTION: Helical Piers to support structure kip loading
In this standard new construction helical installation, the engineer had piers spaced out every 6 - 8 feet on center. The soils had N values between 4 -12 feet and found suitable soils in the 15 - 25 foot range. 1 1⁄2 inch square shaft was the most economical and suitable material for this project.
For additional support, the contractor chose to install piers on the back porch. In this case, it was more cost effective to install piles than to demulch the site and fill with sand. Seven helical piers were lag screwed to support the deck’s perimeter. A bolt-through bracket makes the transition.
