There's no business like SNOW business!

Cabin fever? Get on out!

T.S. Eliot might have said that April is the cruelest month, but we northern Michiganders know it's February when the going really gets tough. Too many snow days, grey skies, and no vacation in sight.

But fear not. This coming weekend is host to lots of fun activities that are sure to lift the spirits and get the whole family out of the house.

Traverse City Winter Comedy Arts Festival: February 14-17

Laughs and activities abound at the first annual Traverse City Winter Comedy Arts Festival. The festival will feature two dozen comedians, a bunch of movies, thousands of laughs — and 200 inches of snow! Front Street will be transformed into a free skating rink. Also look for a ferris wheel, ice sculptures and outdoor laser light shows after dark.

Fly down Front Street on a great big hill right on the road, on the best snow in town, shaped with the best equipment thanks to Team Elmer’s. Snow tubes are provided for those who come downtown and climb the snow staircase to fun!

Team Elmer's is thrilled to sponsor the Sports Arena, which is home to free winter sports for the whole family, including frozen bed race, ice bowling, tug of war and more! See schedule for full list of events.

YetiFest: February 16

This festival and fundraiser will be a day of fun wintery events, including a YetiFest Bicycle Hill Climb for all skill levels, a 4-4 Hockey Tournament, a Yeti Story Time at the Suttons Bay Bingham District Library, and a Kid’s Parade, just to name a few. The proceeds will go to the Suttons Bay Schools, Suttons Bay Chamber of Commerce, and TART.

Team Elmer's is proud to provide materials for fencing along the snow banks. Come and join in the fun and be sighted in beautiful Suttons Bay. Full schedule of festival events.

There's no business like SNOW business...

For decades, Team Elmer's has kept busy in the winter months by snowplowing residential driveways and commercial lots. Over the years, we've gathered loads of stories that made us giggle, blush or roll our eyes. It's time we shared!

Home Baked Goods

Drivers used to cross their fingers that they'd be assigned to plow one kind Traverse City resident's home. The sweet lady would put fresh baked cookies in the mailbox for her lucky plow driver almost every plow night.

Kindness of Strangers
A Team Elmer’s employee once helped shovel out a woman who had gotten stuck in a snow drift. He took his gloves off to do some fine detail work and inadvertently walked away without them. The next morning they were returned to the office with a $20 dollar bill rolled up in the finger of the gloves. The employee never knew her name.

Don’t “Park” in a Snow Storm
On a cul-de-sac near Cherry Knoll subdivision, one Team Elmer's employee had to move around a parked car that was blocking a residential driveway that needed to be plowed. The windows were (a-hem) steamed and he wisely did not interrupt and ask them to move.

Deer in the Headlights
Plow crews come to work early in the morning – dark thirty as they call it.  One employee was driving to his specified route when he spotted a huge buck deer on the side of the road. He slowed down considerably, knowing the buck may dart out across the road. Sure enough, just before passing him, the deer bolts right in front of the truck. The plow, though slowed considerably, couldn't avoid bumping the deer. One antler fell right off onto the hood of the truck. The deer stumbled to the road and the other antler fell off, as the truck stopped. The driver watched as the deer got up, shook itself off, and ran across the road. Deer typically shed their antlers...but not in front of you! The driver still has the antlers.

No Good Deed Goes Unpunished
One employee driving to work on Long Lake Road was stopped by a man in a two-wheel drive truck who was stuck at the end of his driveway. The homeowner asked our employee to help get him unstuck while another company finished plowing his driveway. Gee, thanks.

Blizzard of ‘78
Remember the Blizzard of '78? We'll never forget it. Our drivers worked in 12-hour shifts around the clock almost ten days straight to plow the snow from that storm. Team Elmer's loader was turned on Thursday at 4 am and ran continuously until Sunday morning, when it was shut off only to change the oil and install a two-way radio (this was way before cell phones!). Once the updates were made, we started the loader right back up again and ran continuously for seven more days straight. Phew.

Hero in the Snow
If it weren't for a grateful driver who wrote a letter of thanks, we might never have learned about one of our "heroes in the snow" who rescued a damsel in distress. He's modest, but we are proud of his efforts! Click here to read the whole story.
