Helpful Helicopter

The Grand Traverse Conservation District needed to move 37,900 pounds of stone to the Brown Bridge Quiet Area.

But how do you transport all of that weight where trucks can’t reach?

Team Elmer’s helped with a solution: Bag ‘em up, haul the stones to an open field, and call in the United States Coast Guard to do the heavy lifting, by air.

The large stones were needed for erosion control around a new bridge crossing the Boardman River, in the thick of Brown Bridge Quiet Area.

So, the Coast Guard lifted the bags with a helicopter and flew them to the bridge where they could then be placed along the banks of the river.
